DIY Flower Arrangement

DIY Flower Arrangement

I know, I know.  Long time, no blog.  Go ahead and slap my wrist!

The good news is that I have found some pretty cool stuff while wasting hours upon hours on the Internet.  This little DIY beauty caught my eye just now.

This is a centerpiece that I found on a website while searching for instructions on how to tie a bow.  I think if my energy will keep up, I am going to try to make one of these myself for my Thanksgiving table decor.  It is super festive and it looks fairly easy!

You can purchase your ribbon here.

Insulated Ice Cream Container

Insulated Ice Cream Container

Last weekend, Laura made some of the best homemade ice cream that I’ve ever tasted.  It tasted great and had the perfect consistency.  Honestly, I think it was heaven sent.

I’ll try to get her to post the recipe here soon.

Meanwhile, I’ve found a cool insulated ice cream container.  It would be absolutely perfect for taking some of that great homemade ice cream on a picnic!

It costs $12.95 at spoonsisters.com

More Wall Stickers

August 10th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Decorating, Kitchen

A week or two ago, Laura posted about some wall stickers.  At the time, I wasn’t sure whether or not I loved the idea of using wall stickers.  However, I just stumbled across one that I think is really cool.

Okay, so it wouldn’t work for everyone.  In fact, I don’t think we’ll be putting it in our house, but I thought it was cool nonetheless.

Get them here.

Candle Carver

Candle Carver

I stumbled across this great little invention while playing on one of my favorite source websites.  This gadget allows you to make a tea light candle holder out of your food.

I can just imagine a beautiful table centerpiece for Thanksgiving or Christmas using this little gadget.  You can use mini pumpkins, squash, apples, pears, whatever you feel like digging into!

It is only $9.99 and it would be an easy way to spice up your table this holiday season!  Get your Candle Carver here.

Cutting Board – Without the Mess

August 3rd, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Cooking, Kitchen

A No Mess Cutting Board

A No Mess Cutting Board

One of the worst parts about cutting veggies, is the mess that collects on the cutting board.  If you’ve got many vegetables to cut, you’re sure to end up with a giant pile of peels, seeds, and other undesirables, right in the middle of your cutting board.  Stopping in the middle of cutting your veggies to remove the waste is a real inconvenience.

This Cut & Collect Chopping Board from Joseph Joseph allows continuous chopping, by including a drawer for waste.  Just sweep the undesirables off into the drawer while chopping.  After you chopping is finished, you can remove the drawer, trash or compost the scraps, and wash the drawer and cutting board.

I love this … I’ve gotta have one!

Arched Tile Backsplash

Rocky Mountian Tile Arched Tile Backsplash

Rocky Mountian Tile Arched Tile Backsplash

Still working on my kitchen list.  Ran across this awesome backsplash from RockyMountainHardware.com.  Reminiscent of the long-lost subway tiles of olden years, this tile gives a modern twist to the concept.  I really like how it is not flat, but has distinct basket weave texture.

You can view all of the tile options from Rocky Mountain Hardware here.

I need to quit making my “kitchen must-haves” list now.  Do you know of any cool tile companies?

Hip Bar Stool

Palo Samko Bar Stools

Palo Samko Bar Stools

While making a list of my kitchen remodel must-haves, I started contemplating the addition of a bar or eat in area.  Let me just say… this kitchen remodel is FAR down the road.  The kitchen in this house is ok for now – we have other fish to fry.

Anyway, back on task.

These bar stools by Palo Samko are enough to make me stop and stare.  I must say, I am infatuated with this beautiful seating.  I am not sure if I could even sit on them.  Yes, I like them that much.  In fact, I had a look at his website, www.palosamko.com, and I actually love much of his collection.

Unfortunately, you have to request a custom quote.  Not that it means the end of the world, it just means I may have a VERY hard time convincing my husband that these stools are as cool as I say they are.

What do you think?

Arm & Hammer Baking Soda

Arm & Hammer Baking Soda

We have all heard about the products with a million uses.  Some of them are true, some of them are not.  There is one product that has proven itself over and over again.  Baking Soda is one of the most commonly used product that seems to “do-it-all.”

What does baking soda do?  Besides the usual deodorizing the refrigerator and helping to make the perfect fluffy cake, this product is almost a phenomenon in itself.

Some things you may not have know about the power of baking soda include:

  • It can keep your pool water cleaner.
  • It can work as an antacid (please follow the instructions found on the website.)
  • It can deodorize carpet, rugs, and upholstery.
  • It can work as a laundry booster.
  • It can be used as a general household cleaner.
  • It can be used as a first response for small cooking or electrical fires.
  • It can be used to remove crayon from walls.

There are endless possibilities for this product.  What is your favorite use for baking soda?

For a full list of what you can (and can’t) do with baking soda, please visit the Arm & Hammer Baking Soda FAQ’s page.
