Netflix Origami

Netflix Origami

If you are like us, we LOVE using Netflix.  However, we end up with tons of those little tear-away flaps that come on the original package.  What good are they after you tear them off to mail that movie back?  Of course, you can always do the green thing and place them in your recycle bin, but how about something a little more creative?

This is where the Netflixorigami.com website comes in!

Now, you can save all of those pesky flaps and turn them into folded art to display around your house.  Or even eat out of!  Check out the cool “popcorn” snack box on the website.  Kind of cool…  I was kidding about the “art to display” part, but it is fun.

Go watch some movies!

"Sweet Petites" Aprons from the HipHostess.com

With the holiday season quickly approaching, all the mommies around here are taking a few more weeks to gather the thoughts before we gather for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Holiday cooking has always been big in my family, and with my first little girl on the way, I plan on passing that tradition on to her.  So, I plan on ordering her one of these fantastic “Sweet Petites” aprons – so she can wear one just like all the other ladies in the family.  In fact, she can even have one to match mine!

Get your little cooking diva a “Sweet Petite” apron by visiting the HipHostess.com!

Fall Family Fun – Corn Maze

September 30th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Entertaining, Fun Time, Miscellaneous, Outside

It seems Fall has crept up on us again!  Now is the time to enjoy cooler weather, beautiful colors from the trees, and a good ole corn maze!  Every year, fields across the country become winding trails of tall corn stalks.

Memphis Corn Maze at the Agricenter

This year there are several in the Memphis, TN area (where I am from.)  The theme for this year is “Exploring the Wolf River.” You can find out more information about the Memphis Corn Maze at the Agricenter by going here.

Also, here is a link to The Maize a company who does these all over the United States and Cananda.  You can look up your local corn field maze from their website.  So, pack up the family and check it out!

Oh yea!  One more thing!  Closer to Halloween, the corn field maze becomes “haunted.”  Contact your local maze for more information!

Release your inner vandal

August 11th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Fun Time, Miscellaneous

If you are a creative person you probably have past many walls, train cars, and the like and fought back the urge to go crazy.  There are some really talented artist that got their start painting on the side of boxcars.  You can even view some of the better graffiti art on numerous websites – like this one.

However, if you are like me, a threat of prosecution for trespassing and defacing property was enough to keep me away from the spray paint.

There is hope for your inner rebel though!  Check out this Graffiti Set.  It gives you 160 pages worth of “blank urban wall” images for you to release your inner vandal.  Go crazy – and don’t worry about getting caught.  Unless you want to!

Be A Malevich - Architecture Construction Game

Be A Malevich - Architecture Construction Game

Well, the website doesn’t offer much information about what this game actually is.  However, the pictures made it look pretty cool.

I can see myself sitting around with friends, seeing what kind of crazy contraptions we could assemble from these little building blocks.

I gather that they’re kinda like legos, only different!

You can get your own from Be A Malevich.  However, I hope you’re better with currency conversion than I am, because I’m not really sure how much these things cost.

Southern Food & Wine Festival

Southern Food & Wine Fest

Southern Food & Wine Fest

I am admittedly jealous that there is no way to get to Nashville this weekend.  Starting July 31st and running until August 2nd, your favorite Food Network hosts will be at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel doing wine tastings, cheese parings, demos, and much more.

Being a Food Network junkie myself, I was slightly heartbroken when I found out they were going to be so close.  I didn’t even hear about this show until today.  To add to my heartbreak was that I heard Alton Brown would be there too.  Out of all of the Food Network lineup, he is my favorite – hands down.  Yes, I know he explains things down to the science.  I still enjoy it.  It is like Sesame Street for adults.

Hopefully, they will post some recipes or something from the show.  If they do, I will be sure to post them on here for you to see.

If you decide to go, please tell Alton that I said “hello” and leave me a comment on your favorite parts.

Learn more about the Southern Food & Wine Festival here.
