Netflix Origami

Netflix Origami

If you are like us, we LOVE using Netflix.  However, we end up with tons of those little tear-away flaps that come on the original package.  What good are they after you tear them off to mail that movie back?  Of course, you can always do the green thing and place them in your recycle bin, but how about something a little more creative?

This is where the Netflixorigami.com website comes in!

Now, you can save all of those pesky flaps and turn them into folded art to display around your house.  Or even eat out of!  Check out the cool “popcorn” snack box on the website.  Kind of cool…  I was kidding about the “art to display” part, but it is fun.

Go watch some movies!

Fall Family Fun – Corn Maze

September 30th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Entertaining, Fun Time, Miscellaneous, Outside

It seems Fall has crept up on us again!  Now is the time to enjoy cooler weather, beautiful colors from the trees, and a good ole corn maze!  Every year, fields across the country become winding trails of tall corn stalks.

Memphis Corn Maze at the Agricenter

This year there are several in the Memphis, TN area (where I am from.)  The theme for this year is “Exploring the Wolf River.” You can find out more information about the Memphis Corn Maze at the Agricenter by going here.

Also, here is a link to The Maize a company who does these all over the United States and Cananda.  You can look up your local corn field maze from their website.  So, pack up the family and check it out!

Oh yea!  One more thing!  Closer to Halloween, the corn field maze becomes “haunted.”  Contact your local maze for more information!

Tape that says Ta-Da!

Decorative Tape by TapeSwell

Are giving beautifully wrapped gifts have the fun at Christmas or Birthdays?  It is for me!  This year for Christmas, I am thinking of wrapping all of the gifts in black and silver.

What could make a gift even more great looking?  Cool tape, of course!  These Modern decorative tape rolls by TapeSwell are just what the doctor ordered for the boring roll of Scotts!

A little on the pricy end at $7.50 a roll these cool designs could totally be used to jazz up that gift.

Alternatively, you can always do like my Great-Grandmother did.  She wrapped all of her gifts in duct tape.  Nothing like a big silver wrapped box to say “Merry Christmas and good luck opening it!”

Candle Carver

Candle Carver

I stumbled across this great little invention while playing on one of my favorite source websites.  This gadget allows you to make a tea light candle holder out of your food.

I can just imagine a beautiful table centerpiece for Thanksgiving or Christmas using this little gadget.  You can use mini pumpkins, squash, apples, pears, whatever you feel like digging into!

It is only $9.99 and it would be an easy way to spice up your table this holiday season!  Get your Candle Carver here.

Architecture Building Block Game

Be A Malevich - Architecture Construction Game

Be A Malevich - Architecture Construction Game

Well, the website doesn’t offer much information about what this game actually is.  However, the pictures made it look pretty cool.

I can see myself sitting around with friends, seeing what kind of crazy contraptions we could assemble from these little building blocks.

I gather that they’re kinda like legos, only different!

You can get your own from Be A Malevich.  However, I hope you’re better with currency conversion than I am, because I’m not really sure how much these things cost.

Fused Glass Bowl from Siyeh Studio

Fused Glass Bowl from Siyeh Studio

While playing on the net, I stumbled across the website bestamericanarts.com.  This website showcases artist from around the country.  From jewelry to vases, this website offers a wide variety of handmade products.

What caught my eye the most were these Fused Glass Plates and Bowls created by Brenda Griffith of Atlanta, GA.  These pieces are designed to be pretty and functional.  Created for day-to-day use, the plates are dishwasher safe and come in a variety of colors to match your decor.

These items are found in stores across the country (you can view locations to find products by Siyeh Studios on their website.)  I will definitely be on the lookout next time we head out of Memphis.

Or, if you just can’t wait, you can purchase your very own fused glass plates and bowls here.

For the serious whiskey drinker

July 27th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Entertaining, Miscellaneous

Whiskey Stones

Whiskey Stones

Everybody knows that ice in a drink will melt and dilute the flavor of ANY beverage.  For that serious Whiskey drinker in your life, there is a way to cool the drink without ruining the flavor.

Introducing Whiskey Stones. These stones hold temperature without adding any flavors or odors to the drink.  Just place the stones in the freezer for at least 4 hours, add 3 stones to the bottom of your favorite whiskey glass, and poor the liquid to the top of the rocks.

I am not much on the Whiskey, but it sounds like a great invention!

Get your Whiskey Stones here.
