Netflix Origami

Netflix Origami

Netflix Origami

If you are like us, we LOVE using Netflix.  However, we end up with tons of those little tear-away flaps that come on the original package.  What good are they after you tear them off to mail that movie back?  Of course, you can always do the green thing and place them in your recycle bin, but how about something a little more creative?

This is where the Netflixorigami.com website comes in!

Now, you can save all of those pesky flaps and turn them into folded art to display around your house.  Or even eat out of!  Check out the cool “popcorn” snack box on the website.  Kind of cool…  I was kidding about the “art to display” part, but it is fun.

Go watch some movies!

Cool Kids Room Ideas

Cool Kids Room Ideas

Who said that Kids rooms had to look like Walt Disney himself threw up all over the walls?  While I don’t think that parents should discourage the creative outlet of kids, I don’t believe that rooms have to be completely covered and “young” looking either.

Here are a few websites that I found that really have some great Kid’s room ideas:

  • DigsDigs.com – This page has a handful of AWESOME kids rooms.  Let creativity reign!!

DIY Flower Arrangement

DIY Flower Arrangement

I know, I know.  Long time, no blog.  Go ahead and slap my wrist!

The good news is that I have found some pretty cool stuff while wasting hours upon hours on the Internet.  This little DIY beauty caught my eye just now.

This is a centerpiece that I found on a website while searching for instructions on how to tie a bow.  I think if my energy will keep up, I am going to try to make one of these myself for my Thanksgiving table decor.  It is super festive and it looks fairly easy!

You can purchase your ribbon here.

Old Window With Quote Added By Etching Cream

Old Window With Quote Added By Etching Cream

Take an old window, some paintbrushes, some monogram stickers, and etching cream, and you have the ingredients for a cool old window craft project.

Leah over at House Obsession gives step by step instructions on this DIY project.

I think it’s very cool, and  can envision numerous applications for this technique.

I am curious, however, how it looks when hanging on the wall.  Unfortunately, she didn’t post any pictures of it hanging.

I stumbled across this great little invention while playing on one of my favorite source websites.  This gadget allows you to make a tea light candle holder out of your food.

I can just imagine a beautiful table centerpiece for Thanksgiving or Christmas using this little gadget.  You can use mini pumpkins, squash, apples, pears, whatever you feel like digging into!

It is only $9.99 and it would be an easy way to spice up your table this holiday season!  Get your Candle Carver here.

DIY Floating Buoys

DIY Floating Buoys

While surfing the net, I came across the website instructables.com.  This website is a Do-It-Yourself type site that gives your instructions and ideas for some very unusual crafts.

One of the most impressive projects were these DIY Buoys.  These floating buoys are made of plastic water jugs, a piece of wood, some rope, some foam, and a hand full of tools found in the toolbox.  The website includes a full list of needed items and step-by-step instructions.

Once made, you can use these in a lake as rock markers or beach markers.  You could also spice up your outdoor pool party by placing candles on each of them.

They remind me of floating daisies.  They are quite whimsical in my opinion!  If you have made these before, or have a cool DIY idea, leave me a comment below!

DIY – Installing a Digital Thermostat

July 21st, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in DIY Projects, Repairs & Renovations

While researching my last post, practically every website that I found recommended replacing old thermostats with new, digital ones.

Replacing an old thermostat with a programmable, digital version is an obvious way to save energy.  In fact, it’s so obvious that I bought a new digital thermostat several months ago.  Unfortunately, however, the task of installing it seemed so daunting that I procrastinated and still haven’t installed it.

This video, however, makes the chore seem so easy it’s mind-numbing.  Armed with the knowledge that I’ve severly overestimated the amount of work involved in replacing a thermostat, I’ll probably switch mine out sometime this week.

Make Your Pictures Come to Life!

Make Your Pictures Come to Life!

So you’ve got a digital picture frame, but you’re tired of seeing the same old still photos?

This easy tutorial from Photojojo will make your pics come to life.

Apparently this trick is very Harry Potter-esque.  However, I guess I’m just not cool enough to “get it.”  I guess I need to brush up on my Potter.
